The Big Poetry Giveaway

The Big Poetry Giveaway

April is National Poetry Month, but we’re starting early.
Anyone with a blog can give away 2 books of poems. Anyone with an email address can enter any or all of the giveaways. Yes, poetry is that easy! You can give it away and you can also sign-up to receive it! You don't need a blog to participate, you just need to visit different participating blogs.
So, I decided to participate.

A few things about me:

1. I am an avid birder, very excited to see the migrants returning.

2. My sixth book of poems, Vexed Questions, will be published by Aldrich Press in the summer of 2013.

3. I love to bake bread.

4. I have an Amish grandfather.

5. One of my dreams is to go back to visit Ireland, where I haven’t been since 1970.

6. I have a relationship with God.

7. Cape May New Jersey is my second favorite place in the world.

8. My favorite place is Emmitsburg, Maryland, where I live. Here it is:

I’ll be giving away two books:

1.     1.   My book  Scattered Showers in a Clear Sky

22.  Mary Oliver’s book  Evidence

Here’s a poem from my book, about poetry , and the wonderful poet Josephine Jacobsen:

One word singing

Poetry is one word singing one word singing
In the middle of the night.
Poetry sings what no one cries.
Poetry slips in between the covers of the facts.

Josephine told me
The astronauts did
Take a spider with them.
She died there
In the spaceship.
Her net wouldn’t hold
In the weightless air.

Josephine told me
From her hospital bed
When she could not read or walk.

But she still sang poems
In the middle of the night.
Sang between the covers
Of her body
To the weightless air.

Your place looks wonderful.

Anne, so happy to see your lovely blog, too. We have even more in common than at first glance. I too lived in Maryland (for a year) in Poolesville. Not long enough. And I have always wanted to go to Ireland but have not yet been. So nice to meet you and I do hope I win your book!

I have not had the chance to read any contemporary poetry. I don't know who or where to begin. Entering this contest seemed like a good way to start. Thank you very much for participating in this give away.

Anne: Please sign me up for your book giveaway! If I happen to be lucky enough to be an honored winner this year and receive your book, I will write a review and promote it through the Vermont Poetry Newsletter (& Poetry Event Calendar), which now receives over 1M hits/year. I'll be nearly as excited to win Mary Oliver's book! I'll be crossing my fingers and hope to soon find one of your selections in my personal poetry library! Thank you!
